Lars's note on adoption sends shivers into my space (!) as I have been known to early-adopt. Actually I didn't know this until I was described as "gadget boy" by a long-time friend. Initially I didn't recognise the term referred to me until a series of examples were trotted out - including all the main disasters that have befallen me by doing so.
However I have a specific recognisable subset of "early adoption syndrome" which is "cash bounded" syndrome. There are certain barriers to entry for me - and that is defined by a price point below which I will invest and above which I can't. Interestingly that point has remained at about £220 for many years and is one of the main reasons I've never adopted Mac - as there isn't an entry point at or below that price!
